While the US is tightening the rules for people holding H-1B visas, Canada has opened its doors to Indian IT professionals. Two people related to the case have given this information.
In 2017, the Government of Canada started a program called ‘Global Skills Strategy’. It targeted to invite 3,10,000 people to permanent residents in 2018. The target for 2019 is 3,30,3000.

Stackraft, who helped recruit technology in the US and Canada, said that software professionals are giving preference to Canada, because visa rules are easy there. Normally, a professional holding an H-1B visa gets approval to work in the US for three more years. But, in the US, the scrutiny of people holding visas was strictly increased by the rules.
The US is also strict in issuing new visas. Starkraft founder Vartika Manasvi said, “If a person goes out after working in the US, he is given priority. His application gets quick response.” He said that there are many people whose visa duration has been extended till 2021 and they have OPT status. Despite this, they want to go to Canada.
Manaswi said that one-third of professionals going to Canada with H-1B visas are Indians. Some companies have started offices in Canada due to confusion over the extension of H-1B visas in the US. These companies have helped professionals with difficult skills like data analytics.
According to a report, of the top 30 companies whose 13,177 applications for extension of H-1B visa have been canceled, two-thirds are Indian companies. These include TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant and Tech Mahindra’s US arm.
